Dr. Tom Daley - RETIRED

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Dr. Tom Daley, who retired from Western University on June 30, 2015 after 33 years of dedicated service.

Dr. Daley completed a science degree at the University of Guelph, and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery designation from the University of Toronto. He went on to complete a Master’s degree in Science at Western University before joining the Department of Pathology as an Assistant Professor and Oral Pathologist in 1982.

Dr. Daley’s contributions to teaching have been monumental, touching the lives of students in dentistry, medicine and science all over the world. Over the past years Dr. Daley has taught and coordinated 3.5 full courses in the Dentistry Curriculum.  He has been on the University Teaching Honour Roll for more years than we can count, won the Dean’s Award of Excellence in Teaching, and was also the recipient of a national teaching award – the WW Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education. In 2013 Dr. Daley was made the honorary class president of the Dentistry Class of 2013. He has also been very active in the training of residents in Pathology, Otolaryngology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He participated in continuing education both at the university level and across the province.

Dr. Daley has also had a very active research career in oral pathology with special interest in three areas: salivary gland neoplasia, human kallikreins in salivary and odontogenic tissues, and periostin in oral diseases. He has numerous publications and has presented his work locally, nationally and internationally.

Effective July 1, 2015 Dr. Tom Daley is designated as an Emeritus Professor at Western University. Congratulations on your retirement Tom!
